This video is one of Joanna Penn‘s many inspirational interviews with successful indie (independent) authors, from her podcast series.

Here, Joanna is speaking with Mark McGuinness who is a non-fiction author, poet, psychologist, specialist coach for creative people, and a professional speaker.

The interview is based on Mark’s book, Motivation For Creative People: How to Stay Creative While Gaining Money, Fame, and Reputation, which is an in-depth exposé for creatives of all types, and especially for writers. But I think many of Mark’s ideas have universal appeal for human beings!

This book is part of a trilogy (so far!), which includes Productivity for Creative People: How to Get Creative Work Done in an “Always On” World, and Resilience: Facing Down Rejection and Criticism on the Road to Success. All three books are a must for creatives.

I always enjoy MARK McGUINNESS interviews as he is articulate, insightful, pleasant, and genuine. As a practising creative coach-psychologist, he has a pragmatic approach to the challenges that all creative people face in our business-oriented world. Creativity can be a business in itself, without losing it’s intrinsic human value. I also recommend his books highly.

The interviewer, JOANNA PENN, is a best-selling indie author and writes books both in thriller fiction (under J.F. Penn) and non-fiction (under Joanna Penn). Joanna is highly regarded internationally as one of the world’s go-to people in the indie publishing industry! Her books, blog, and podcasts have made a huge difference to my work as an author, and are a constant source of inspiration for many thousands of people around the world.

Regardless of whether you are already an author, or presently an aspiring writer, you would be wise to avail yourself of Joanna’s many resources and her brilliant podcast interviews. The indie movement for writers and authors is a swiftly developing global phenomenon. And Joanna’s interview conversations are packed with enlightening information!

You can also listen to the original podcast, which includes Joanna’s preamble of industry news for indie authors, and progress on her own projects, via this link to her website at (I highly recommend you visit her site, especially if you are an author or author-to-be.)
